Why Racial Identity Is Pulling Christian Men In

Show Notes

The last four pages of Black Sun ask an uncomfortable question: what if the policies meant to overcome racial division are helping to fuel it? In 2002, Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke warned of “a potential authoritarian future in 2020 or 2030.”

This is the final session of my Black Sun Book Club, covering Black Sun: Aryan Cults, Esoteric Nazism, and the Politics of Identity. I read Goodrick-Clarke’s conclusion, “The Politics of Identity,” and ask what a Christian response requires. Recognizing a real grievance does not justify racial hatred. Our first loyalty is to Christ. What follows from that has to reach beyond our prayer closets into how we live in the world.

We read this book together from January through May, and recorded this last session live in May. The whole read-through is public now, every session, free.

In this episode

  • Goodrick-Clarke’s argument that affirmative action and racial preferences helped foster the racist far right

  • Mass immigration and the abandonment of assimilation

  • How old underground ideologies reached mainstream audiences through the internet

  • Why I think an authoritarian future could come from the hard left or the hard right

  • Choosing Christ over our own people, and refusing to let bitterness and resentment take over our hearts
